Dr. Roberts is a native of LaPorte, Indiana and attended Purdue University for undergraduate studies and to study veterinary medicine. He graduated in 1973 with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. He then practiced in small animal practices in Indianapolis, IN Denver, CO and Valparaiso IN before he moved his family to South Carolina in 1982, where he established the Fountain Inn Animal Clinic. In 2016, he sold the clinic and has been doing relief work since.

He has served as president of the Blue Ridge Veterinary Association, Greenville Veterinary Association, and the Fountain Inn Rotary Club. He served two years as South Carolina Pet Week chairman and was actively involved with the Animal Emergency Clinic as a director and chairman.

He is married and his wife Nancy have one son Topher. For many years he coached youth sports before turning his interests to beekeeping, gardening, hiking, and travel.
